My management plan/style is based on individuality, respect, choices and the belief that children are responsible for their behavior. We will be using the following as our class rules:
-
Feel free to choose behavior that does not cause a problem for others.
-
If you cause a problem, you are responsible for fixing it.
If a child causes a problem for others I will ask them to come up with a plan for the best way to solve the problem. My goal is to help guide the children toward personal responsibility and decision making. If the child is unable to solve the problem or refuses to solve the problem, I will respond in an individualized manner based on the situation. At times, a child may be asked to go to recovery (a quiet spot in the classroom or a buddy room) to think about their problem and possible solutions. The child will be allowed to return to the group when their problem is solved. In certain situations, a child will be asked to fill out a "recovery form" explaining their problem and how they will solve it. If this form is sent home, please discuss with your child how they solved their problem and sign and return the form. My goal for this entire process is to help the children grow and learn from their actions.
Our school will also be focusing on the 6 Pillars of Good Character. These pillars include:
-
Respect: Treating others the way you would want to be treated.
-
Responsibility: Being dependable and making good choices.
-
Fairness: Taking turns, sharing and listening to what others have to say.
-
Caring: Being kind and thoughtful to others.
-
Trustworthiness: Other people can count on you to do the right thing.
-
Citizenship: Obeying the rules and working to make your community better.
Explanations of the pillars and how to show these good character traits will be discussed during the first few weeks of school and also throughout the school year.
