Spelling and spelling homework will begin the first week of school. For the first two weeks, we will have 1st grade review words. Our regular spelling program (Harcourt) will begin the third week of school. Spelling will consist of 15 words. The first 10 words will be based on a spelling pattern. Of the remaining 5 words, 2 will be review from the previous week and the remaining 3 will be sight words (words that are often difficult to sound out and must be memorized). Spelling lists for the entire quarter will be sent home in packets at the beginning of each quarter. The spelling lists will also be on the front of each weekly newsletter and spelling homework will be on the back. Our spelling homework is called "Spelling Tic-Tac-Toe." The children are given the option of 9 activities to practice their spelling words. They must complete a minimum of 3 activities each week. The activities change each week and are fun for the kids. Please sign & return the "Spelling Tic-Tac-Toe" by Friday of each week. Points will be given for completed homework. Spelling tests will be each Friday.
